Culture is a powerful driver for development, with community-wide social, economic and environmental impacts.
Once you have an innovation culture, even those who are not scientists or engineers – poets, actors, journalists – they, as communities, embrace the meaning of what it is to be scientifically literate. They embrace the concept of an innovation culture. They vote in ways that promote it. They don’t fight science and they don’t fight technology.
If you believe in science, like I do, you believe that there are certain laws that are always obeyed.
In the large contest on culture and development, cultural factors are said to affect economic behavior in at least four ways:
- through its impact on organization and production,
- through attitudes towards consumption and work,
- through the ability to create and manage institutions,
- and through the creation of social networks.

Science investigates; religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge which is power; religion gives man wisdom which is control.
A scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.
